ABREN is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit that receives all of its funding from grassroots fundraising. Because the administrative costs are covered by the volunteer work of the ABREN board, 100% of these funds go directly to Nicaragua. You can send your tax-deductible donation to: ABREN at 534 Georgia Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94306. As the organization grows, we are now exploring options for online payment in the near future to make donating to ABREN easier.

Core Needs: This is what we need for current ABREN programs:

- $700 monthly for salaries
- $100 monthly for site materials
- $500 yearly for books
- ABREN administrative costs are covered in full by the volunteer work of Board members
- ABREN Board President Kristina Underdal continues to provide training and program oversight in Pueblo Nuevo through annual visits at her own expense.

Leveraging our Resources: with modest additional funds, we could take these further steps to use the human and material resources of our core programs to increase ABREN’s impact on the community.

- $100: high school scholarship for one year, to cover fees, school uniform and supplies. In return, recipients volunteer 10 hours of service monthly working in the library, offering special classes such as music or dance or tutoring younger students. The few scholarships we have been able to afford thus far have greatly benefited recipients and the library.
- $30: covers the transportation cost of one class to visit the library from a remote country school for a day’s study trip.

With even more additional funds. ABREN could build on its unique role as a center of innovation in the Pueblo Nuevo region to put more resources into outreach efforts and expand into new areas of learning at the library itself. Here are some examples:

- $100 monthly to hire a new Librarian Assistant to free up our senior librarians to implement new programs at the library and in the community.
- $? monthly subcription to internet access at the library, vastly expanding the research and communication opportunities for this remote community. (We are currently researching the cost)
- With $2000 we could buy 10 OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) computers – for information go to http://laptop.org - so children there can learn and effectively use the technologies of the present and future to research, create, collaborate and share online.
- $1000 purchases four literacy units for lending/outreach to ABREN-trained public school teachers in outlying districts.
