Our Garbage
The people in our community produce a lot of trash. Usually we try to put our trash into the trashcan. We have trashcans at school, in our homes and even along the street in downtown Mountain View. The trash we put into the trashcans is taken away once a week by garbage men. They come in big trucks and take all our trash to a place where there is a big hole called a landfill. Here they dump all the trash until the hole gets really full. Then what will we do?
Unfortunately, not everybody actually puts their trash in the trashcan. For example, around our neighborhood you can often find trash on the sides of the streets and in the bushes. A lot of this trash are wrappers from the food people eat and then throw on the ground. For example, you can often find Hot Cheetos bags, soda cans and chocolate wrappers. This trash isn't good for our environment, so it's important we always remember to pick it up when we see it.
The best solution to the problem of having too much trash is to not produce so much of it. For example, we could stop bringing lunches to school that make so much trash. We could also recycle. When the garbage men come each week to pick up our trash, they also pick up the things we've separated to be recycled. They take these things to be recycled and make them into something new. Things that we can recycle include paper, glass and even some things made out of plastic! |
