Our Schools

Since the time we started school, we have learned to value our schools here in Pueblo Nuevo. In our municipality there are many elementary schools. As well as the school in town, each small community in the mountains has their own little elementary school. However, there is only one secondary school, which is located in town. Therefore, all the students who want to continue studying after sixth grade have to go to that school. Students who live in communities far away have to walk to school or come by bicycle. Others use the public bus. Traveling to school each day in addition to paying for school uniforms and school supplies is a big cost for families who don't have much money. Because of this, there are many teenagers in our municipality that don't have the opportunity to continue their studies.

The largest elementary school in the municipality is the one located in town called Rubén Darío. It has one principal, two vice-principals and 25 teachers. There are so many students that they need two different class schedules. Students who study in the morning start school at 7 am and finish at noon. Those who study in the afternoon start school at 12:30pm and finish at 5:30pm. Elementary schools include first through sixth grades. After that, students go to the secondary school, which includes five years of study and is also very big. Next to the secondary school is the district office, MECD, which in Spanish stands for Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.

In school we learn new knowledge and develop habits, attitudes and values that are fundamental to be successful in our futures. We also learn to work together and support each other in our studies, which helps us feel good and become better students. ~ Reyna
