Inside Our Library

The Library "Centro Recreativo Infantil Amigos" is a center which began five years ago.   The Center is very important for our community of Pueblo Nuevo as it is the only public library where we can also get homework help and have healthy fun.

There are two rooms of the library. All the books are on the shelves of the big room. Our library has beautiful books. There are story books for kids in preschool and all the way to high school. There are also all kinds of reference books and elementary, high school and even some college textbooks. We can do all kinds of research for our homework or to satisfy our curiosity. Outside of the library building there is a garden and a playground where the kids can play afterparticipating in an academic activity such as, reading, being part of story hour, participating in the study circle or doing our homework with the librarians' help.    

In the small room there are study circles, sory hours, math games, art classes and in the mornings there is preschool. This is the first year our school has had official preschool classes. Those in the third year (kindergarten) just had a beautiful graduation. It's important to have a preschool in the library because it is close to kids' homes, there are various materials and they receive excellent attention from the librarians. All the families in our community have been very happy with the new preschool program.    

At the library there are special days. For example, every Friday there are arts and crafts projects and many educational games such as puzzles, scrabble, monopoly and others. On Mondays the youth group meets and discusses topics of importance to adolescents such as, values, self esteem, goals for the future and we play games together. Additionally, the librarians celebrate Mother's Day, Children's Day and Book Day with a lot of creative activities. They also organize rafflesto raise funds for the library. In all, the library is a fun place that's very important for our community! ~ Ana Yancis
