YOUTH GROUPS

The needs of youth in Pueblo Nuevo go beyond gaining access to a quality education. In addition, they need a safe, healthy place to enjoy the company of their peers and guidance in their journey into adulthood. ABREN has recognized these needs since its inception. In fact, it was Kristina Underdal’s youth group that initially inspired the creation of the library and sparked the growth of this project.

Since 2000, ABREN’s youth groups have offered teens the opportunity to learn and share ideas about important life skills and to cultivate strong values. The youth group of 20+ youth ages 13 to 16 meets weekly in the library center with Irma. Irma is constantly looking for new ways to engage the youth in topics that have direct impact on their lives, such as planning for the future, familial relationships, study skills and analyzing personal values. The group also plans special events every few months, such as nature hikes and community service projects.
